Uh oh. I sense a long babbling Hendo-Post coming on... ;o
Yeah, the story of Valyance has been developing in my head since I was about
12, when I finally had Lego models of three different themes. The setting
grew out of my childhood need to explain to myself how sword wielding
knights might exist so close to diesel powered trains and not all that far
from rocket using space jocks. Once I had the setting, all I needed was a
story, and the first big chapter of Valyance was undeniably inspired by the
introduction of BT1, because once someone figured out how to use Space
Technology for military invasion, then the stability of the Valyancian
multi-technological society could be threatened in some good story conflict.
Basically, the stories I hinted at in that post were the foundation from
which my ideas took shape.
Curiously, back in those days, my collecting behavior dictated how the story
developed. TLC made freight trains, my Town grew to have a big freight
industry. TLC offered Classic Space, the Billundians formed the FSPC to
explore the moons peacefully. Etc. ...But starting somewhere during the
mid 1990's, my habits changed. The story developed faster than TLC could
produce new sets and ideas. So now, I buy sets based on how I envision
Valyance to be, and I build MOCs based on what I need to represent my story.
Now, the story dictates my ABS behavior. Bit of the chicken and the egg, I
guess.

See what I can do... :)

Understandable. I gotta say, this project has me thinking. A few months
ago, I was planning to build a ship, the FPSC Lafayette, an Escapade Class
Deep Space Explorer for use in the Starship game. But I got busy with other
ships and being the GM for the busy opening weeks of the game, so what was
supposed to be the Billundian's diplomatic flagship never launched. And I
never really figured out how to build it anyway. But, now that you inspired
the memory of that old semi-modular pile of blocks I mentioned in my post, I
am wondering if I should start there. I might try rebuilding that old ship
and then begin developing and evolving it using newer techniques until it
might be called the Lafayette. Hmmm... Contemplation!...
> Thanks for your interest Hendo...if I may call you Hendo ;)
You certainly may. :)
It is a psuedonym that has stuck with me since before high school (which is
before there was enough internet that everyone seemed to have a handle).
Most of my friends, many of my former classmates, and some of my coworkers
call me by the nickname. Heck, I introduced myself that way during college
orientation, and I think there were a few professors who never knew me by my
full name. ...And since I consider many Lugneters my friends, you are all
free to refer to me that way if you wish. 8D
Cheers,
