Yes indeed, that was the show.  The original Japanese name is Gatchaman, but
was imported to the west as Battle of the Planets.  The group itself goes by
the collective name of G-Force.  Many intros often had G-Force superimposed
on the opening credits....increasing brand recognization I imagine,
accompanying the limited run of toys that were released a year or so into
the series.

They did all indeed have avian costumes that allowed them to fly through
little armpit winglets and seemingly endowed them with some measure of
enhanced strength.  Some of the suits also featured grapplers with lines,
etc for fighting the badnicks.

Their ship, the Phoenix, did have a small scout ship mounted to the top (I
think Robin may have built a version of this displayed in the last panel).
Whe the need arose, the Phoenix could become the firey Phoenix, engulfing
itself in flame and employing all sorts of flame-engulfing powers.

Chris might be able to supply some more details gleaned from his enviable
B.O.P. DVD...

Refresh my memory about this cartoon. I think I haveseen it before but I am
not sure if I am think of the right one.

The cartoon I am thinking of was on Cartoon Network about 6 years ago right
after I got out of school. This was when Toonami was just a little seedling
and it was still hosted by Moltar and the little flying ball thingy.
Anywho... the show I am thinking of is a bunch of kids that had bird suits
on. The man guy was a white bird and was really cool. The Fat guy was owl,
and there was a girl and really youg boy too...I think. I thought that show
was called G-Force, right? Is that the same show?

Hmm...maybe it was a rerun on the Cartoon Network...I saw it way back in the
early 80's and their ship could transform into a fiery bird at times.  I
remember the birds suits too...I think we are talking about the same show :-)
