  New transforming space ship

I have just finished my first attempt at a transforming space fighter. I used the basic layout of a macross valkrye (sp?) but changed a few things. The arms fold up but remanin on the outside of the legs. When the head folds out for the mecha mode (...) (23 years ago, 31-Dec-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) but its worth it. It is amazing how you have managed to fit the whole mech inside the ship frame; the engine movement is particualary interesting. (...) Perhaps. I am not a big fan of transforming mechs. I think that your space ship mode is (...) (23 years ago, 31-Dec-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Pretty cool, Pat. It's very difficult to create a transforming mecha that works well, so I appreciate the difficulty of what you did there. :^) ~Grand Admiral Muffin Head -- Mark's Lego Creations (URL) (23 years ago, 1-Jan-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

Hey, Patrick I really quite like this-- it's an incredibly challenging task to set for yourself, but you've done an admirable job. The ship forms are particularly nice, flowing into each other aerodynamically. The mecha is quite good, too, but I (...) (23 years ago, 1-Jan-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

Pat, Anything that transforms is by definition much more difficult than building either a mecha or a spaceship. I really like the spaceship. On the mecha I agree with your critique. That said, what really astounds me is that (to my knowledge) you (...) (23 years ago, 3-Jan-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

Thanks Bobby. I'm not really a big fan of transformers either, but I really was interested in the challenge. I dont think it would be to hard to make some design changes to the current model to get the mecha mode to look better. I'm not really sure (...) Thanks Stuart. I'm not a huge fan of transformers so the design challenge is what I was really after. v2.0 might be a while, or maybe not. Pat J (...) (23 years ago, 3-Jan-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: New transforming space ship

Thanks Bryce. I'm glad you picked up on that. Besides for the folding body and swinging legs (both of which are in every transforming ship I know of) the rest was all original. Everything was carefully planned and drawn out before building. The real (...) (23 years ago, 3-Jan-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

Pat, great overall design and you pointed out the flaws yourself. Other's have commented in much the way I would, so I have nothing more to say other than 'Great Job'! -Dave (23 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)
