I've finally added some photos of my first large scale MOC to my website.

Please let me know what you think about the vehicle design or the site • layout.
I'm always looking to make improvements.

Any other pictures? I'm interested in seeing the elevator at work.

Suggestions:

-try to make a way for the crew to go from the cockpit to the rear section
without having to go "outside." That's a real building challenge that I'd
like to try.

I couldn't think of a clean way while keeping the articulation. I sketching a
new, more compact one without an articulation joint.

-tighten up the interior. There's too much empty space. Vehicles are
generally designed as compact as possible. You have TONS of wonderful empty
space back
in the science area... squeeze those computers together so there's just
enough room to fit between then. Cram more machinery and equipment in there.

Actually, that was part of the design. A good portion of the floor space was
dedicated to my sub-floor computers.

I was also trying for the "Star Trek" look with lots of open space. My current
project is a lot more utilitarian.

-Is it possible to make the elevator smaller, or were you planning to put a
small vehicle on it? (If it's only for crew, then no reason for it to be so
big.) It looks big
enough to fit a decent-size vehicle, so I'm assuming you plan to do that. If
you can make the elevator smaller, then more room for stuff around it!

I had a vehicle that was supposed to be parked on the elevator. Unfortunately
it wouldn't fit under the GSV when all was said and done. That's part of the
reason the project was abandoned. The elevator would handle it beautifully, but
you couldn't drive it on.

- I'm not sure how "realistic" you're trying to be, but designing the craft
that way would put an enormous amount of strain on the trailer-hitch
section. Perhaps
another set of wheels just behind that?

The articulation joint was rather stout. I had no bending in that area that I
could tell. In fact what I tried to do was learn from Terry K. and his ULV-017

http://www.homestead.com/ulv017/files/index.html

I got a lot of inspiration from his design.

Looking forward to seeing more pictures!

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

<snip> (...) Actually, what I was trying to say, is that it doesn't look "real-life" enough. A real-life vehicle with that kind of weight on a joint that small would snap it like a twig. Personally, I'd have twice as many wheel assemblies anyway, (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)
