MOC: Thousand Astronomical Unit Probe (NEF)

Hi everyone, I've been working off and on since Brickfest with my latest project, a "NEF" (Near-Earth-Future, an odd-sounding but standard term) extrasolar survey ship. I'm operating in the relatively unpopular grey zone that a few of us like, the (...) (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) You knew that you would get my attention with this one, right? I'm working in this same time frame, the near future. I hope to give you some company soon. Nice model, faithful to the Daedalus concept. Those saucer sections are becoming more (...) (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Looks good. It's definitely a very interesting idea. For some reason it reminds me of V'Ger. I really like the midsection with the tanks. Now if there was just more time in the day to explore ideas with legos. </me contemplates organic ships.> (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: MOC: Thousand Astronomical Unit Probe (NEF)

(...) Excellent! Yeah, I had hoped I would smoke you out. Are you settled in at JHU now? (And if so, can I give you a hard time about not coming to BrickFest? :) ) (...) I wish I could have done a better job with the pusher plates-- Daedalus, if (...) (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: MOC: Thousand Astronomical Unit Probe (NEF)

(...) Thanks! The actual Daedalus had big ol' fuel globes around the middle. I've sort of mingled and mangled my TAU and Daedalus references--they're different things, and Daedalus actually dates from the mid-1970s--but you can see the ship in (...) (...) Cool, somebody's building something real! <G> I must confess, I really enjoyed the page, but I didn't look at the MOC so much as reading all the cool text. I eventually ended up hopping to some other sites to learn about the Heliosphere :] (...) (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Hmmm, I'll talk to a few people and see what I can do <G> I have an idea that may step up the schedule... ;] KDJ ___...___ LUGNETer #203, Windsor, Ontario, Canada (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) The "drive that works beyond [sic] the heliopause" is the actual stardrive. That's a different technology, a fictional one. The idea is that you have to use the pulse drives to get it to the point where the gravitation of the Sun is (...) (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

I tell ya Lindsay, no one can make a better tech description then you. Of course a lot of the info for this moc is real science so you're not really making it up but you throw it together well. This is not my strong point. : ) I also really like the (...) (23 years ago, 9-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) momentum from the explosion to the ship are gases released from vapourizing the casing of the bomb. I guess I can envision a dense enough wave of such gases being produced to transfer momentum to the collector shield and cause thrust on the (...) Besides, I'm hoping I can trade it with the space agencies in exhange for my going on the mission :] I've got the ship name all picked out, too! KDJ (whose calendar (...)   Re: MOC: Thousand Astronomical Unit Probe (NEF)

(...) Lindsay, Wow, this is great, and I think it's a lot of fun to try and make an MOC with technical limitations. It makes me wish I had bought some cheap saucer parts, I knew UFO would be good for something. In a perfect world, I'd have a bunch (...) (23 years ago, 10-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)
