Re: Origin of the words "Duplo" and "Scala"

(...) I always assumed that "Scala" was based on the word Scale. The figures and models seem geared towards a roughly real-world scale (as opposed to say, minifig scale... in which cars are never wide enough for two people to sit side-by-side).   Re: Origin of the words "Duplo" and "Scala"

(...) DUPLO is like "double" or "duplicate" or "duplicity" -- i.e. 2x, which is how much bigger LEGO DUPLO bricks are compared to LEGO SYSTEM bricks. (Well, 2x in each of 3 dimensions, anyway.) SCALA was originally used for a line of LEGO jewelry (...) (24 years ago, 18-Oct-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo, lugnet.scala)

Origin of the words "Duplo" and "Scala"

How did they come up with those? They don't seem to be based on any words I can think of. (24 years ago, 18-Oct-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo, lugnet.scala)

  I've been given this offer

The other day, my local ABS pusher wanted to know if I was interested in Scala, I told him no! :) (no offence) But he kept on wining about how he wanted to get rid of a set, that he apparently is having a hard time selling. He has 9 sets 3143, (...) (24 years ago, 9-Aug-00, to lugnet.scala)

  Re: 3148!!!!!

  Re: New Scala!

(...) LOL! I should have used my brain -- duh -- obviously the Technic angle beam wasn't the new one. (blush) OK, so the 8x8 purple disc is a new purple then? Even more magenta than the purple in Cyber Slam? --Todd (24 years ago, 2-Aug-00, to lugnet.admin.database, lugnet.scala)

  Re: New Scala!

(...) I should have clarified, the Technic angle beam is one from the Spider Slayer, I put it in for comparison. I'll have to dig out my DUPLO dinosaurs and check the purple. (24 years ago, 2-Aug-00, to lugnet.admin.database, lugnet.scala)

  Re: New Scala!

(...) Thanks for the descriptions! I have yet to see those foam pieces, but personally, I'm not overly excited about them as far as I see them in the pictures. I understand you could use them in a variety of ways, but they look cheap to me. And I (...) (24 years ago, 2-Aug-00, to lugnet.scala)

  Re: New Scala!

(...) 8x8 disc is purple, then the Technic angle beam is more violet? How does it compare to the purple/violet dinosaur? It it a new in-between color? --Todd (24 years ago, 2-Aug-00, to lugnet.admin.database, lugnet.scala)
