I just received the first of the new Scala sets today. I received 3159 (Party Celebration according to the receipt).

There is some new stuff here:

There are three sheets of foam which are about the thickness of a stud (looks closer to the thickness of the narrow part of a 1x1
round). Yellow, green, and reddish. These are used for the shrubbery, hamburger patties, cheese, lettuce, flowers, a crown, and a
few other bits.

The next new piece is approximately 1x1 round by 2 plates thick. It is a connector for the foam pieces and will connect two foam
pieces. It has a stud with hole on top, a tube on the bottom, and 4 dimples which allow it to fit in the space between 4 studs, like
this:

            O O
             @
            O O

    O = stud, @ = new piece

These pieces come in yellow (7), orange (2, looks to be System orange as opposed to one of the Scala oranges), and bright green (1).
It will be interesting to see how else this piece is used, I'm sure someone will figure out some uses for it.

The next new piece is a 2x2 round domed piece split into 4 quarter domes. It is about 2 bricks tall. This piece holds a foam piece
vertically. The one in this set appears in bright green. The bottom of it is almost exactly the same shape as the bottom of a 2x2
round plate, complete with Technic axle hole. The difference is that it has holes which allow the quarter dome sections to be
hollow.

It looks like we may have a new purple/magenta color. It is significantly lighter than the Technic purple. Based on Suzanne's color
chart: http://www.baseplate.com/colors/ it looks like it would be purple-0.5 (it's darker than the Paradisa flowers I have). From my
screen though, I would have called purple+0 as an almost exact match. The part in this color is an 8x8 round table top plate/tile.

The set also comes with a birthday cake (looks to be the same pattern as always, certainly the same as the one in Minnie's
Birthday), trans red wand, yellow tray, 2 trans lt blue Scala goblets, trans red 1x1 cylinder, trans red 1x1 cone, trans neon green
1x1 cylinder, trans neon green 1x1 cone, 3 clear 1x1 round plate (1 extra as always), 2 trans red 1x1 round plate (1 extra), 2 trans
green 1x1 round plate (1 extra), white 2x2x3 brick, bright green 4x4 plate, 1 light yellow/cream 2x2 radar dishes (hamburger buns),
red 2x4 brick, 2 red 1x1 tile (1 extra), 2 red base black stick control sticks (1 extra), 1 yellow 1x1x4 antenna, grey 2x2 round
tile.

The stickers include labels for two bottles (made from the trans cylinders and cones), a balloon flag for the antenna, a stereo
sticker for the 2x4 brick, and a CD sticker for the grey 2x2 round tile (as you might guess, a bunch of parts are used to make a CD
boom box).

I'll probably take some pictures of the new parts.

The instructions have pictures of the other new sets which are large enough to make out more details:

3148 (Carla's Winter Camp according to my invoice - still backordered): The white around the little pool is a foam piece, the cave
definitely looks like a vacuum formed piece, the triangular flags are foam pieces. A decent looking tree is made from stacked foam
pieces.

3149 {house}: foam pieces are stacked to make a nice looking tree (looks a little better than the one in 3148 - too bad these trees
aren't in a small set, they would work nice for system trees I think, and I think they may be of adjustable height), foam pieces
look like they make a garden.

3150 {pet set}: mostly foam pieces

3151 {sled}: the dog trailer is foam

3152 {furniture}: a bunch of foam pieces, foam table cloth

Frank

Thanks for the descriptions!  I have yet to see those foam pieces, but
personally, I'm not overly excited about them as far as I see them in the
pictures.  I understand you could use them in a variety of ways, but they look
cheap to me.  And I can easily picture little girls losing those tiny flimsy
pieces.  I hope to see new Scala pieces more in hard plastic next year.
