My first guess would be that the RCX doesn't have firmware loaded (If you see "00.00" on the display, firmware is loaded, if you just see an icon and "1", then it isn't). Second guess (...) | I have a USB Hub with an RS-232 port. When I connect the IR Transmitter to this port, the firmware downloads fine. If I have a program with a single RCX command block, it's fine too. | (...) I would have ascribed it to the USB to serial converter, but I also see this on the Sun with a real serial port. This is what makes me think it's a problem with my RCX or IR tower. Since I have only a serial IR tower, it works fine on my desktop PC, but communications won't work when I use a USB/serial converter to connect it to my laptop (there (...) | (...) Michael, I tried your programs on Windows and Linux. On Windows 98 the USB tower takes about one second to reply (990 - 1100ms). On Linux it took about 9 seconds as you indicate. | Hello Up until yesterday my nephew has been using the Xircom USB to Serial adapter on an iMac (Blueberry 350 ) with MPW NQC quite successfully. Now NQC seems to be able to transmit via the adapter (the green data light flashes on the adapter and on (...) (24 years ago, 26-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)
