Hello All,

After I bought Mindstorms last fall, I became intrigued by the number of people
wanting to drive more than 3 motors or have more than 3 sensors that is offered
by the RCX.

I took a different approach (unless I missed it in the archives), and,
admittedly, one that might not appeal to the RCX loyalists.  This problem
looked like a good application for CAN (Controller Area Network).  With
CAN, it is possible to drive any number of motors and sensors
independently.  OK, there is finite limit, but you are more likely to run
out of money for motors and sensors before you exceed the limits of CAN.

I've posted it at http://www.flash.net/~mfabiny/C505brick.htm.  This relates to
my job, but I did it more for fun than anything else.  Take a look and see what
you think.

Mark!

This is great work! I am always impressed when someone goes
beyond wishing for stuff that LEGO did not provide us with
and then actually builds a working model.

Your idea of a modular motor/input module is one of the great
benefits of CAN, and it makes things a lot cleaner.

I'm still trying to make little robots within the confines of the
RCX system.

I will disagree with you about the RCX not being modular though.
If you use some of the alternative firmware out there (like pbForth)
the RCX bricks can communicate via IR like a little network. Not
as robust as a straight wire, but useful nonetheless.

Way to go!

Cheers,
