Proper power supply for a 1.0?

What is the proper voltage for a external power supply for a 1.0 RCX? Can I use the power supply that goes with the 9v train speed regulator? I believe the train transformer outputs 12VAC. jt (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Proper power supply for a 1.0?

(...) true - but I think the RCX input is rated 9-12V. I don't have a train transformer here, but wouldn't it be outputing 12VDC? Can't imagine why they'd put a AC to DC converter in the regulator... Anyway, we've used the train transformers many (...) (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Be VERY careful with that train transformer (was:Proper power supply for a 1.0?)

(...) heh, notice that the original question was about the "power supply that goes with the 0v train spee dregulator" - so we're talking about lego transformers, not just any train transformer. :) (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Proper power supply for a 1.0?

(...) Well on the back of the LEGO train power supply it list Output as 12VAC 7VA, so I'm assuming that the DC conversion is done in the speed regulator, I couldn't tell you why. But it's good to know I can use this power supply with a 1.0 RCX since (...) (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Proper power supply for a 1.0?

(...) I've used the Train Transformers with great success. If you look close at your RCX you'll notice 9-12~ Anything from 9 to 12 volts AC or DC will work fine. Though to prevent your RCX's Diode Bridge from burning out AC is better. (Shares the (...) (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Proper power supply for a 1.0?

(...) I'd like to be cutting in to this transformer conversation, since ... I'd like to know what kind of adapter I could use (and how) for supplying my RCX with power, since it has no inlet. I have tried to use DC adapters for 6, 9, and 12 Volts, (...) (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Proper power supply for a 1.0?

(...) First off have you connected the right two plates? First, I'd suggest using a 9 volt battery to find the right two plates. The RCX has built in reversed polarity so with a 9volt battery you won't damage anything. THEN ONLY USE 9 volts (...) (23 years ago, 23-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
