Actually, Fred's announcement is a little premature, sorry.

Several important things to know if you do choose to download the current
version of IC:

1) The libraries are tuned for the Botball contest (www.botball.org) and by
default include a routine for running the Devantech SRF04 sonar

2) The Mac OS 8/9 port is still early beta-test and has some
problems/missing features.

3) I haven't added the online documentation yet.

4) Downloading firmware to the RCX doesn't explain what's happening to the
user

In the next few weeks, the OS 8/9 port should settle down, I'll add
documentation, and provide more generic libraries, including a library for
Handyboards without expansion board.

In the meantime, PLEASE DON'T CROSS-POST FRED'S ANNOUNCEMENT TO RCX LISTS.
I don't want to get a flood of people using a not-quite-finished version and
have everyone disappointed.

Hi everyone,

The KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR), a non-profit
educational organization, has been sponsoring continuing work on free
versions of Interactive C.  In the last week, Randy Sargent has
announced Interactive C Version 4, which is available Windows, Linux,
Mac OS 8/9, and Mac OS X platforms.

IC v4 is a huge improvement over the previous free versions of IC, and
in many ways is better than the commercial IC v3 sold by Newton Labs.

You can download IC v4 at http://www.kipr.org/ic/download/ .

The terms of use are: it's free, but any donations made to the KISS
Institute are welcomed.  The KISS Institute is a non-profit charitable
organization and any funds donated to it are fully tax-deductable.

One note for HB users.  Right now IC v4 comes with Handy Board libraries
that assume the use of the Expansion Board.  Perhaps some enterprising
HB users who don't have an Expansion Board can figure out the new
library file format and come up with a set of lib files for the
non-Expansion Board case.  It shouldn't be too hard.

IC v4 also works with the RCX, so those of you HB + RCX owners should
really have fun.

Yours,
Fred
