I would love to be able to use serial controlled boards with the Handyboard. Given that it only has one serial port which is used for programming, won't this be a problem? (...) (28 years ago, 13-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Scott Edwards makes a nice board called the mini-ssc which takes a serial RS232 signal and drives 8 servos. You can chain two of these for the capability of driving 16 servos. I understand the handy board has motor drivers for wheeled applications, but what about 6 legged robots. These use 12 PWM servos. How can the handy board be used to control a 6 legged critter? (28 years ago, 13-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

I have tried to use my servo with the HB, but the icb that I have does not reflect the documentation in given in the HB manual that I have. I have read in the HB Manual that people have experienced difficulty when useing high amperage transformers to charge the HB.I am interested in chargeing the HB with a 12 volt automotive circuit.Is this possible. Does anyone know if the motor ports on the HB are spike protected? I would like to actuate a relay from a motor port. Understand that PWM has the effect of controlling the amount of power fed to the motor, power is related to current in a quadratic (p = i^2r), and your current is related to the voltage applied and the motor parameters (...) (...) The (small) load presented by the gears makes it behave quite well with pure DC (...) Sadly, the servo motors have oodles of oomph (the correct technical term for torque etc).
