Hi
I am a little bit curious as to why there seems to
be such a lack of interest in the Parallax Basic Stamp
and its new high powered alternative the Basicx.

What I've always wondered about the Basic Stamp is why anyone would
want to use Basic to program an microcontroller.

Hi Jonathan good to hear from you.
I think the reasons that people are tempted to use a Basic
programmable microcontroller are :-
()familiarity with the language structure and syntax
()speed with which you can develop and debug software
as oposed to using other options eg machine code
(my other "language")
I know a lot of people who when writing software for both personal
and professional use still work out the programme algorithms
in MS QBasic before going on to something more "professional"
(they might not admit to that in company mind you)
At the end of the day people use the language they are
used to. Inspite of all that the BasicX programme language
does seem to be made for the job.

all the best JC

(...) What I've always wondered about the Basic Stamp is why anyone would want to use Basic to program an microcontroller. I love Basic but when coding for a robot I want to take full advantage of the hardware, and that means programming it in Forth (...) (25 years ago, 23-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
