  Eclipse ideas

Any ideas how to track the sun trajectory using some gears and one RCX? Watching the eclipse I had this wild idea of creating a permanent projection of the sun in a wall in my room. B-) Using some gears, a lens or binoculars, a sun filter and a (...) (25 years ago, 11-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I guess you could use a light sensor, and then turn the sensor slightly left and right, to determine where the light is sharpest. When its dark you should turn the sensor to the east and wait for the sun to raise. This might work when the sun (...) (25 years ago, 12-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) The trick would be getting the gear ratio and timing right. You need to step the rotation speed down to 1 rotation every 24 hours, to equate to the sidereal motion. If you've seen an equatorial mount for a telescope, that's what you're looking (...) (25 years ago, 12-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Yes it might! Great idea. Thanks! :-) (...) <snip> Yeah, in 2327 I'll be here to see the next total Eclipse in Portugal! :-) Laurentino Martins [ mailto:lau@mail.telepac.pt ] [ (URL) ] -- Did you check the web site first?: (URL) (25 years ago, 13-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I like this idea too. It would be interesting to be able to project the sun onto a wall or screen to see sun-spots etc.(if possible). And you could also use it to fade your posters/wall-paper etc., or keep the sun on your plants :) (...) Also up and (...) (25 years ago, 13-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) ;-) Great idea! This is very useful, if cultivating a plant with special needs of sun. And you could have the RCX to spry some water on it, when it gets too hot using the temperature sensor!
