IR Transmitter - where's the "off" switch? —Brian H. Nielsen
I've been playing around with my new RIS and having a blast, but one thing bugs me - there's no "OFF" switch on the IR transmitter. When I power off my computer the IRT still has the green light lit and drains the 9V battery over time! I've taken (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I don't have a RIS, but I always heard that one of the worst things of the IR tower is that automatically powers itself off after 2 or 3 seconds of use. And because of that, you cannot send messages from the MindStorms to the tower because it only (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Brian, I think your tower is the odd one out here. My LED only turns on while the tower is transmitting, and goes off a few seconds after it finishes. My guess is that there is something wierd about your serial port, but I haven't seen the problem (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) The Green light on my IRT turns on when downloading and off when done downloading. The problem is that it also turns on and stays on when I power off my system!! (I'm using WIN98 on a system that auto powers off when I SHUTDOWN.) At first I (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)
