These three are kind of intertwined. The cost of mass-producing a CD is so
small as to be almost negligible, so it wouldn't affect the cost of the
book significantly, or the publisher's bottom line were the price to stay
the same, and at the same time, it's a little lagniappe that might result
in selling more books to said non-net-enabled folks.

Hence a section on the web page and in the book saying that the software
is not supported by the publisher.

Or just an update to the CD. For that matter, you can ship the same
edition with an updated CD after a few months.

That's the bookstore's problem if their purchasing department can't
project demand at least somewhat accurately. Though aging copies is rarely
an issue with ORA's books.
Another neat idea, which ORA has done in the past, is to release the book
on CD-ROM, either in text, HTML, or PDF.

| (...) That's an interesting point. I wonder what percentage of the 80,000+ LMS owners out there are net-enabled. Certainly, of the ones geeky enough to buy the book, almost all of those must be net-enabled...? What are the issues related to (...) (26 years ago, 19-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)
