The 779928/779927 Beams packages from Lego Dacta come with 4 each of the
#16, #12, #10, #8, and #6 beams as well as 8x #4 and 16x #2 beams. At
least in what I have done so far, I wind up needing as many of the #12 beams
as I do the #16 beams. If I do need more, I know where to get them :).
What XXL building set are you referring to? I know the #8277 Giant set has
been widely recommended as a good source for large beams.
