Variations on the "ADDER SUBTRACTOR" ("differtrans" ?)

Hi, fello legoroboticists. My son Michael has a web page via Geocities, where we decided to begin to assemble various lego oddities to share with other enthusiasts. Much interest has centered around the "adder/subtractor" transmission, a design that (...) (26 years ago, 27-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Note that my fathers design (the 2nd one on the page) also allows you to get rid of having the offset gear on a 2nd level, but you would have to use two 16t gears and a 8t pinion. We were trying to reduce the usage of the pinion gears because (...) (26 years ago, 27-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Nono, a hotmail address you can read once a year is your friend. Of courtse, personally I run sendmail on the linux gateway box, and I have a few spam-accounts there. For now, they get forwarded to my regular account and then sorted into a (...) (26 years ago, 28-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I like the name "differtrans", personally. :) But that's just my opinion. With so many variations on a theme coming about, I have to wonder if anyone's come up with the "best" implementation -- minimal volume and using no unusual pieces (such as the (...)   Re: Variations on the "ADDER SUBTRACTOR" ("differtrans" ?)

I have mixed feelings about this device. I find it fascinating, for reasons I have yet to come to grips with. It has many weaknesses, the most significant being that only one motor provides propulsion, the other is only used for turning. When using (...) (26 years ago, 28-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

In article <F68MH0.CAq@lugnet.com>, Cyberia <cyberia@erols.com> writes (...) May I suggest "sumdiff"? It describes the action (it takes the sum and the difference) and diff is short for differential too. (26 years ago, 28-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Which design did you use? If you try some of the more efficient designs it works quite well. On my webpage (just updated, (URL) I added pictures of my most recent robot. It runs the large wheels at a 1:3 ratio from the motors. The motors can (...) (26 years ago, 28-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)
