My totally unofficial opinion would be something like this. There’s not much TLG can say about code you write for yourself. But, if you’re sharing that code, it could easily look like LEGO officially endorces it, if it’s called NXT.NET or something like that. In which case, they may ask you to change the name. Just avoid that, by using another name.

Steve, do you think TLG would object to leJOS NeXT? Legally I it should be okay, since I don’t think people can trademark a common word like ‘Next’. I’m not sure if capitalization of letters matters with regards to trademarks though.

Someone in our group also mentioned that Steve Job’s defunct operating system was called NeXT. As far as I know, that’s dead now so he couldn’t object to it, but maybe someone has a more informed view on this.

After Apple acquired NeXT (it's more the other way around, actually), a lot of the NeXTSTEP features carried over into Mac OS X, such as (...) (18 years ago, 30-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics, FTX)
