Hello all,

I've been reading this list for a while now, and this is my first
response, if it comes through :)

I've benn working on this (
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=158205 ) 4x4 buggy with
LDraw, but before buying the pieces I'm missing to actually build it I
wanted to know if you had any ideas on how to brace the RCX to the
robot's structure without lowering the ground clearance

BTW do you think it'll actually work???

Basically, the idea for your chassis is sound. However, there are a few
improvements possible.

You say you don't want to lower the ground clearance. That's possible, but
the suspension as you have it now is not without issues. In order to
compress, the wheel will have to move outward a little and depending on
the surface your vehicle will be driving on this can be a problem. The
best way to build suspensions is with the carrying arms as much horizontal
as possible. Try the concept you designed using the bricks that you have;
you will see it works better the more horizontal the arms get.

Also, you will probably find that you wear out or break the universal
joints in the drive axles. They are used under a rather extreme angle in
your design and subjected to a lot of stress. Why not connect the wheels
directly to the motors (since you don't gear up or down anyway)?

(...) What do you exactly mean by this? (...) Because, since it's supposed to go on rough terrain, I'd like the electronics as far away from ground as possible to prevent any kind of damage. Reckon I'll have to buy extra universal joints (they are (...) (19 years ago, 22-Dec-05, to lugnet.robotics)
