What do you feel is a reasonable price?  In the next week or two I
should have the first prototype built of a pair of commercial solenoid
valves adapted for LEGO/RCX usage.  They'll be 9v, and around 1.1
watts. It will be 2 3-way valves, one for each end of a cylinder. It
will operate as a motor, with one direction (forward) actuating one
valve, the other direction (reverse) will actuate the other valve.
This will give you an extend/retract cycle. I don't yet have the
housing built, but they will be enclosed in standard LEGO brick parts
and use a standard 2x2 wire.  Until I have the units in hand I won't
know the exact particulars, but I will post something as soon as I
have a workable model. I expect the size to be about 10 studs long, 6
wide, and 2 bricks and 2 plates high.  It will have barbed fittings to
accept standard LEGO tubing.

If others are interested in this, please let me know.  If you have
questions, feel free to ask.  If you want me to make it in a
particular color, tell me that too before I start building.

(...) Sounds cool -- that's the sort of thing I had in mind, though I couldn't find solenoid valves for less than $70 or so, which is just too much. A reasonable price in my book would be something like $10 per valve, or if it's already adapted for (...) (20 years ago, 27-Aug-04, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

I've been thinking a lot lately about electrically activated (as opposed to manual) pneumatic valves. I've seen several designs on the net where someone has taken a regular LEGO manual valve, and attached a motor. That's clever, but I'm wondering if (...)
