| | Ultrasonic sensors - comparison & performance?

I've been looking at ultrasonic sensors for the RCX - two seem currently availible, the 24 kHz one from Mindsensors, and the 40 kHz one from HiTechnic. What experience do people have with these, specificly? I suspect they wouldn't interfere with (...) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I cannot provide any comparison information because I think it would be improper of me to do so. I would like to set out a couple of technical details relating to distance measurement using ultrasonic techniques, since I have been involved in (...) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I have no personla experiance of any ultrasonic range sensors (still waiting for my sensor from HiTechnic). But I found this extensive test of the HiTechic sensor. (URL) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics)

Hi, I own the 24Khz from Mindsensors. I have not played with it a lot, mainly because I cannot get useful behavoiur. The device works nearly as a binary detector, object present in xxx meter or no object. Minimum distance is around 30 and max about (...) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Most of my results from the HiTechnic sensor were the opposite of this. I find it to be very useful, so I use it all the time. The readings seem to show a good, linear output based on the distance. (even though I usually use it as a binary (...) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics)

Has anyone pulled the ultrasonics from a Nintendo Powerglove yet? I saw someone using bend sensors wit the RCX, but haven't seen anything on the ultrasonics. The glove comes with two transmitters and three receivers and was originally used to (...) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) How sensitive can you get this way? Specificly I'm thinking of having the sensor looking down a long "hallway" with airflow directed toward or away from the sensor (this too should result in a differing time-of-flight, yes?). (21 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Yes, this should work, but you won't be able to measure the direction of the wind, just it's velocity. But then this isn't different from the cross-wind situation either. Remember velocity=distance/time (v=d/t). The way to measure wind speed (...) (21 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.robotics)
