I've just thought of an even better system. Build a two wheel robot with a
turntable on the top over the centre of rotation. Attach an arm to the
turntable which links back to the rear wheels. You can then turn the front
part through 90 degree increments. The rear section will then follow. If you
do parallel stripes though you'll push the rear wheels backwards and over to
the side so you'll have to keep it away from walls.
