I have always thought that LEGO should have built the Vision
Command camera housing such that the focus could be motorized.
I know I'm not the only one ...
In this thread, Bob Fay (of LEGO milling machine fame) suggests
using half of a large Technic turntable:

Kyle Beatty built a motorized focus using tires:

So, here's my attempt at a motorized focus for Vision Command. Note that
I irreversibly modified a 40-tooth (z40) gear (LEGO purists beware).
Construction details and pictures can be found here:

The camera is nothing more than a static webcam at the moment -
nothing fancy like a mobile robot with auto-focus software or
anything.
For the curious, here's the main webcam page:

For the extra curious, check out the "Brownie Cam" archives.
See how many LEGO models you can spot ...

| I was wondering if anybody would improve the power focus for the Lego camera. You have accomplished this very well. I especially like your tilt drive. Sticking that 40 tooth gear without glue is super. Congratulations! Bob Fay (URL) Haye" (...) (22 years ago, 13-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)
