Lego Dacta sells a usb IR tower.  You can also get one if you purchase
Mindstorms 2.0 set.  Mindstorms 2.0 software upgrade is available from Lego
(or was when I bought mine).  You will have to have the software upgrade to
make the usb IR tower work.  This is all of what I did.  The tower I believe
cost 20-30 bucks, and the software was another 20-30 (can't remember the
fine details).  Its only money, just go make some more!  ;-)

Hi!

I've read this mailing list homepage, but I can't figure if there any
good chances to make my RCX from 1.5 to work directly with the IR
dispositive from the laptop.

The reason is that my laptop doesn't have a serial port. Lego says IR
and USB<->Serial does not work... but I don't want to buy 2.0 to get the
USB tower.

My chances are, then:
using IR directly from the laptop (if possible, Linux)
use a serial to usb conversor (it works?)
buy a PCMCIA card with serial ports (does it works?)

I would like suggestions... thanks

Alberto
