  3804 RIS 2.0 VS 9747 RIS 1.5

OOOOPS! I meant this one 9747. Forget about my previous post. So what is the difference between those 2 sets? Thanks again, Jean-marc (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) differences are: 1) Software upgrade - available separately for about $20 2) use of a USB IR transmitter instead of a battery powered serial port transmitter. varying opinions as to which is better with longer range. 3)There is a length of (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Hi John, I sure appreciate your help and thank you very much. I was tempted to buy it at TRU in Canada, they had a Can$20 off on the original Can$300... Not a big deal but it could help a bit and TRU is the only place I can buy them. Best regards, (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) If you already have the software for a 2.0 set can you use that instead of buying the upgrade? TIA, Elijah (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) That "fiber optic cable" goes with the new USB tower. It's for use with VLL (Visible Light Link) devices, like the Micro Scout. You stick one end into a hole in the USB tower, and the other end into a hole in the Micro Scout. So if you don't (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: 3804 RIS 2.0 VS 9747 RIS 1.5

How long is the fiber optic cable in the kit? I am looking for a fiber optic cable that is longer than the one in the RoboSports kit. I find joing two of the latter "cables' together causes too much signal loss. Any suggestions on where to find a (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) BTW, it's not a new part. The Extreme Creatures Expansion set contains 6 or 8 of these, as did the classic Technic Space Shuttle set. In both of these sets, the fiber optic strands are used with a rotating light gizmo. Tilman (23 years ago, 28-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: 3804 RIS 2.0 VS 9747 RIS 1.5

I have the fiber optic cable from Extreme Creatures (I accidently said RoboSports in my earlier post), but that is about 9.5 cm. If the one in RIS 2.0 is 19.5 cm then it must be a different part, or am I missing something. I am looking for a cable (...) (23 years ago, 28-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I have the "old" from the space shuttle, But they can´t be compared. (...) (23 years ago, 28-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) No, these are different. The new is thicker (inside of a pin), soft and just cylindric. The older ones are made of a harder material, are thinner for most of their length with just a thick end, and they have ridges that divert some light along (...)
