differences are:
1) Software upgrade - available separately for about $20
2) use of a USB IR transmitter instead of a battery powered serial port
transmitter. varying opinions as to which is better with longer range.
3)There is a length of flexible fiber optic cable included but otherwise,
the parts listings seem identical (unlike the changes from 1.0 to 1.5 where
the upgrade included a substantial amount of different parts).
Stated operating system requirements are:
1.5
Windows 95/98, Pentium 166, 16M RAM, 70 M hard drive space
9 pin serial port
2.0
Windows 98, Pentium II 233, 32M RAM, 115 M hard drive space
If your system has a 9 pin serial port but otherwise meets the requirements
for 2.0, check around. It may be cheaper to pick up a discounted 1.5 and
buy a 2.0 software upgrade. Personally, I don't think that the included
fiber optic cable is any great shakes and that a higher quality replacement
can be obtained through a scientific supply house or such if you really need it.

| Hi John, I sure appreciate your help and thank you very much. I was tempted to buy it at TRU in Canada, they had a Can$20 off on the original Can$300... Not a big deal but it could help a bit and TRU is the only place I can buy them. Best regards, (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)

| (...) That "fiber optic cable" goes with the new USB tower. It's for use with VLL (Visible Light Link) devices, like the Micro Scout. You stick one end into a hole in the USB tower, and the other end into a hole in the Micro Scout. So if you don't (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.robotics)
