  Re: Programming the RCX...

(...) I love responding to my own post. I just checked out you website and see you are an explorer with an open mind (at least an open source mind). I, however, am an ass. Sorry (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Elimating the need for the IR tower

What happened with this John B. ? Where I can get some schematics ? It would be great if I could build an Ir Tower (or something to program my scout), since I can't get anybody to ship this things to where I live (Argentina) Tia, (...) <> (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Outdoor Robot Photos

(...) Thanks. There was actually alot of development (and a bit of luck) involved in the color schemes I used. The RCXbug was developed for my biology thesis, and since the RCX is yellow anyway, I decided to give it aposematic (warning) coloration, (...)   Hand-Tech

Gents, I've been getting some questions on the Tech for the hand I developed, and that's good because I made a diagram! Check it out on Brickshelf: Hand tech: (URL) Folder: (URL) Status: (URL) hand you see here incorporates the Torque / Slip Gear as (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

Mmmm, you are indeed respectful. Thanks, wow, So when we have made our masterpieces we sit back and enjoy our toys, for our mind, body and soul extensions. I like that! Very good. Man's gotta have his toys ya know. or The more money the bigger the (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: I wish Lego made an "Anti-Backlash Gear"

Sorry Eric. I certainly didn't mean the word "toy" to be derrogetory in any way. Must be a cultural thing. My job is to create room sized "toys" which weigh several tons, contain thousands of kilowatts of potential and/or kinetic energy, and require (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Programming the RCX...

(...) I have hard time seeing how taking simple constructs and organizing them into something which exhibits a behavior not anticipated by the author of the constructs is not programming. How does it differ from arranging textual tokens in a (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Outdoor Robot Photos

(...) These are great looking robots and photographs, I think the way you have used colour on the robots is fantastic. The quality of photographs is making me want to "upgrade" my digital camera ;-) Jennifer Clark (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: Programming the RCX...

In addition there are versions of ladder logic which are used in PLCs in millions of industrial applications. I would classify ladder logic as visual. There are also some UML (Unified Modelling Language) applications such as Rhapsody that allow you (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Please pardon this announcement of JStamp - full details at (URL) have a closet full of Lego Technics, Droid kits, etc which we are itching to automate with JStamp. We hope to have some operational at JavaOne and, in future (not enough time to (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) National Instruments would disagree with you. Their product Labview is a tremendous success, requiring a marketing machine the size of Unigraphics'.   Re: Programming the RCX...

(...) Connecting data paths between conventionally programmed chunks is not the same thing as "programming". (...) Yeah - *theoretically* - but in practice, people don't do that. (...) But it's still not a visual programming language...it doesn't (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Programming the RCX...

(...) I have to disagree. I personally have three fairly significant robotic applications in the field which were developed using a visual programming language. I must confess that the language was not purely visual. The software IC components were (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Programming the RCX...

(...) Ah - OK. (...) I think that might just be overkill for a system as simple as the RCX. There are only three motor outputs - and you have no direct control over speed or angles - you can only say "forwards", "reverse", "brake" or "freewheel" (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Programming the RCX...

Steve, Thanks for the reply. I was thinking more along the lines of abstraction and simplification versus a pure visual language. Something that would make programming an RCX alot easier with respect to range checking for valid values, such as motor (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Programming the RCX...

(...) There certainly is some kind of a Java implementation for RCX. I havn't used it though...most people start off with NQC (Not Quite C) which is a very good starting point...then if you need more, dump the RCX firmware and replace it with (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)
