I just got my first computer ,a laptop actually. now I am saving my pennies
for the RIS set. I only knows how to do basic operations w/ computers, but I
learning all I can. have been following your e-mails for awhile and
understand this is no simple toy. now i am very interested in code and
cross-compiling. so, where should I start?
1. is there a 2.0 version of RCX?, if so should I get it or 1.5
2. to learn code; pdforth,NQC, and,C++ where do i start and, what book
should I get at the library?
thank you, Lego Users Group NETwork

| (...) Yes - there is a 2.0 RCX - but I don't think it's available quite yet. However, you can install the 2.0 firmware on the 1.0 or 1.5 RCX's - so that's not a reason to wait. Probably the most significant thing about RIS 2.0 is that the IR 'tower' (...) (24 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

| Try to get the version 2.0 RCX so you will have the eternal power connector. Saves a lot on Batteries. Buy Dave Baums book, "Definitive Guide to Lego MindStorms". Also, Jonathan Knudsen's " The Unofficial Guide to Lego MindStorms Robots" is very (...) (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

| (...) Try the original software, then NQC, then others. For a start try Dave Baum's book Definite Guide to LEGO Mindstorms. If your library doesn't have it, there's some material on the web: (URL) Jürgen Stuber <stuber@loria.fr> (URL) (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

| I agree with what was posted before that you might want to get some basics in programming first before moving onto mindstorms... Though ff you want to get started quickly on your bots I´d suggest NQC which has a *very* good tutorial online somewhere (...) (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)
