  Building a Postscript printer?

Hello, I'm completely new to the Lego Mindstorms scene. I was thinking about getting RIS 1.5 this summer, and one cool project I was thinking about was building a robot that could be used as a printer or plotter of vector graphics e.g., Postscript, (...)   Re: Building a Postscript printer?

(...) I don't know where the fun is for you, in the mechanics and programming of the RCX or in the conversion Postscript -> Plotter commands. If it's the first part you might want to look for a converter from Postscript to some simple Plotter (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Building a Postscript printer?

(...) You're going to want to use GhostScript for your PostScript interpreter. It already does a good job of interpreting PostScript, so you don't have to write one from the ground up. Then all you have to do is put definitions into the main (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Building a Postscript printer?

Yup, that was pretty much what I was planning to do. Hack Ghostscript into something to generate a sequence of vector commands to drive the RCX. I was searching for information on a Postscript->HPGL/PCL converter myself since that is basically what (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

There is an online version of the manual(at least part of it--the important parts) available at Wotsit www.wotsit.org. Go to printer formats. There is several formats listed, including PCL and HP-GL/2. Andy (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Building a Postscript printer?

Thanks! I grabbed the HPGL info from wotsit.org. Looking around for Postscript->HPGL converters, I found the following: <ul> <li> <a href="(URL)Pstoedit</a>: converts Postscript and PDF into lots of other vector formats (including HPGL). Source (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Hacking GhostScript is not necessary. PostScript lets you redefine the standard functions. --- Chris Osborn FozzTexx Enterprises fozztexx@fozztexx.com 2136 Coronado Ave. (URL) Napa, CA 94559 (24 years ago, 25-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Building a Postscript printer?

(...) I see. Thanks for the info, I'm new to Postscript programming. I found this tool called Pstoedit (with source) that translates Postscript into HPGL (and several other vector graphics formats). I'm probably going to start with that instead. (...) (24 years ago, 25-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Building a Postscript printer?

(...) I found a web site that provides a lot of information on the very topic of constructing robotic plotters driven by Postscript interpreters. Don Lancaster operates the Guru's Lair at www.tinaja.com and he has a term "flutterwumpers" for (...) (24 years ago, 26-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) between (...) Let's try a little "metaphor". Not technically correct, maybe, but we'll see : 1. servo motor ---...--- A servo motor is esentially an "analogic" device : you have to provide him with a pulse width modulated signal. The signal (...) (24 years ago, 27-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)
