I'd recommend RIS. I haven't tried the RDS, but it looks a lot more simple.
I had a lot of fun with the RIS, and if you program it with the software
from LEGO, you can make a "bump into wall-back up-turn around" robot in
10-15 minutes for the first time, if not less.
BUT...
There is a "demo mode" and tour part of the CD that's really boring. You
can skip it by pressing some buttons (can't remember which ones) but I
didn't know that, I had to go through it all. It's really easy to start
programming without the tour, but I had to go back and check some.

| Hi, Haven't bought anything yet, but I'm very interested in the Mindstorms kits. I'd like to get your opinion on which would be better to buy first: The full Mindstorm Robotics Invention System or the Robotics Discovery Set. Looks to me like the RDS (...) (24 years ago, 29-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)
