| Hi, Haven't bought anything yet, but I'm very interested in the Mindstorms kits. I'd like to get your opinion on which would be better to buy first: The full Mindstorm Robotics Invention System or the Robotics Discovery Set. Looks to me like the RDS (...) (24 years ago, 29-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

| Robotics Invention System (RIS) is more powerful but is more expensive. It has more memory and 3 inputs and outputs. I believe RDS brick has only 2 outputs. RDS is better if you something easy to use since you can program it on the brick itself but (...) (24 years ago, 30-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

| Definitely get the RIS. The price difference is usually < $50 US, but the RIS offers significantly more in the way of pieces and flexibility. As for programming times, you're going to see a huge variation. I'd say for most projects using the RCX (...) (24 years ago, 30-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

If you're not sure if RIS is for you, go to your local bookstore and buy or browse Dave Baum's Definitive Guide to LEGO MindStorms. It should give you a feel of how long it (...) | I'd recommend RIS. I haven't tried the RDS, but it looks a lot more simple. I had a lot of fun with the RIS, and if you program it with the software from LEGO, you can make a "bump into wall-back up-turn around" robot in 10-15 minutes for the first (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jun-00, to lugnet.robotics)
