Re: Lego Blimp Project —James Stanton
Unfortunately, the blimp never left the ground. We found that we would need a baloon about the size of a VW beetle to get our equipment in the air. We are currently working on a project involving suspended tracks... Jim (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I did some work on that. It was for a webcam that could move around and lower a part of it with the camera and could spin around... It was going fine until I realized I had to support the track every few inches. WAY to many holes in the (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Use an intermediate support, like a 8ft long 2x4. Then you only have to support the 2x4 at the two ends. And you can make holes in the 2x4 to mount your track all day long and not worry. Tilman (25 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Lego Blimp Project —James Stanton
We were thinking of using a railroad track. Fortunately we can punch many holes into the ceiling being that it is a gallery space. Our project sounds similar to yours. THe basic idea is a dynamic web-presence for the exhibition going on below the (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Lego Blimp Project —Brian Alano
How about more of a cable car mechanism? It would take a lot less infrastructure. By suspending your robot from the ends of three cables which are anchored in different corners of the room, you could reach more areas of the room. (...) -- ___...___ (...)      Not a bad idea, at one point we were thinking about an X configuration so that the robot would be able to cover more space. (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I'd love to hear how you are dealing with the interface on the Internet. If your allowing users to control it.         Re: Lego Blimp Project —James Stanton
That is something that we have been thinking about. We are trying to come up with a "poetic" solution where multiple users would have a group control. You know, if the majority wants to go left then it will go left kind of thing. Or we could make a (...) (25 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Lego Blimp Project —Dean Husby
(...) The best solution that I've come up with so far is to have a VOTE system. The user would click on the map of where they wanted it to go. (What station) and what direction the camera is to face. Then another task checks the vote every x minutes (...) (25 years ago, 8-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)
