We were thinking of using a railroad track. Fortunately we can punch many
holes into the ceiling being that it is a gallery space. Our project
sounds similar to yours. THe basic idea is a dynamic web-presence for the
exhibition going on below the robot.

I did some work on that. It was for a webcam that could move around and lower
a part of it with the camera and could spin around... It was going fine until
I realized I had to support the track every few inches. WAY to many holes in
the ceiling for a rental. Sigh. So I switched to a track on the ground.

How about more of a cable car mechanism? It would take a lot less infrastructure. By suspending your robot from the ends of three cables which are anchored in different corners of the room, you could reach more areas of the room. (...) -- ___...___ (...) (24 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.robotics)
