It won't be easy to write a program with Visual Studio that runs ON the RCX. It should be pretty easy (for a programmer) to write a program that runs on a PC, and uses the IR tower to send commands to the RCX, telling it what to do. Also, you can't (...) While working on Bibo, I observed some unexpected differences between GCC 3.4.6 and gcc 4.4.1. Specifically, one of the XS Lisp demo programs that is fine when built with 3.4.6 is too large (section .bss not within region ram) when built with 4.4.1. (...) I've posted a zip containing some very early versions of my NXT utilities (tool windows from BricxCC) for Mac OS X. Oops.. absolutely correct - do I feel like an idiot? :) As Doug says, the brick can only be programmed in a limited sense using VLL. (...) Actually, the Droid Developer Kit and Dark Side Development Kit contain the Micro Scout which is not really programmable. See (URL) details on how to program it with a VLL. Picked up a used Droid Developer Kit (set #9748) via garage sale. Had the instruction manuel, the micro-scout and missing less than a handful of parts (easily replaced).
