  Sharp GP2D12 Distance Measuring Sensor

Has anyone made this sensor compatible with the RCX? For only $8 bucks it seems ideal. (URL) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Help request : LegOS 2.5, demo/c++.cpp make failure

(...) Thanks for that info - I was thinking *I* must have done something stupid ! (...) Good point ! I hadn't yet considered the overhead aspect. Thanks for the help ! jl (23 years ago, 24-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: Control lego motors and rotation sensors

(...) You can set a power level, but it doesn't seem very effective at controlling speed. (...) Usually you just gear it up so that it spins faster. If you're gearing down a motor to drive a wheel or an arm, arrange to put the rotation sensor (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Who makes the lego webcam?

(...) It a Logitech QuickCam Web: (URL) have to install the driver for this instead of the one that comes with the Lego cam if you want to run it under Windoze 2K or XP. It worked fine for me that way. I don't see a driver for that on the Logitech (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Control lego motors and rotation sensors

1) Can you have diferent tension levels aplied to a lego motor, for speed control purposes ? Or, one can only make it turn at a constant speed. 2) Are there more precise rotation sensors than the ones that came with lego mindstorms (only 16 ticks (...)   How to orientate a robot?

Hello! I just wanted to to tell about a project that we are working at. We are two students and our instructor at the university in Gavle, Sweden. You can find more information about the project at: (URL) expected result for this work is to show how (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: constructing a new network protocol for LegOS

I'm a teaching assistant for a course at brown university that uses legOS and the RCX extensively. I've added quite a bit to legOS (0.2.5) to suit our course needs, but the rest is all still there. I've written up some documentation and an API for (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Re: install on Windows ME?

Fredrik, (...) Please install following the instructions (INSTALL-cygwin) which you cite and let us know how you fare. I believe it should work. If it does work let us know (reply to this message) and I'll add WinME to the list of supported (...) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Who makes the lego webcam?

I know lego makes the casing and stuff but who makes the camera internals? Also, can you use it under linux? (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  install on Windows ME?

Hello. I wonder if it's possible to install legOS 0.2.6 according to the new docs at: (URL) on Windows ME? If not I wonder which version would be ok to install? (23 years ago, 24-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: Interactive communication with the RCX

I don't think collision detection will be possible since the hardware/firmware does a checksum (at least in lego firmware), and no message is provided to the VM software (LASM), this prevents ACK/NAK protocols working. The Message() function does (...) (23 years ago, 24-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Two RCX with one IR-Tower

The 'usual' way to get status data is to poll the the RCX memory for status information, but you can't do that because of the number of RCX bricks; so how about getting each RCX to send a response message (or series of messages) to the PC encoding (...) Hi, i've uploaded some Pictures and *.DAT files to (URL) is a small car style modell with 2 drive motor engine and a normal rack 'n pinion steering, 2 rotation sensors. 1 for the steering angle and one for the distance. It is very powerfull. Can (...) (23 years ago, 24-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: optical mouse as sensor?

I believe that some research work in autonomous vacuum cleaners in the late 90's determined that a random walk over the course of a few hours was just as good as a methodical path. Stig, a couple years ago I was in the same place you are. I got one for xmas when it first came out. I was rather disappointed in the limitations of the LM, so I gave it to a 13 year old budding engineer. In retrospect, I guess I just didn't have (...) (23 years ago, 24-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Not totally satisfied with the Lego Mindstorm concept: Mathematical variables and direct connection PC/mechanical device

Re: Not totally satisfied with the Lego Mindstorm concept: Mathematical variables and direct connection PC/mechanical device

(...) That's OK so long as the RCX doesn't get out of IR contact with the PC - as can *EASILY* happen. You need to have at least some autonomous code inside the robot that will enable it to regain contact with the PC by (for example) backtracking (...) (23 years ago, 24-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics)
