  announcing the Handy Cricket!

(a little late for X-mas, but maybe in time for New Year's...) As many of you know, when I was at MIT one of the last things I worked on (from 1996 to 2000, actually) was a tiny robotics controller called the Cricket. In May, 2001, I obtained rights (...)   RE: RIS2 Upgrade on W95 & Pentium(I)

Well the concern there is that RIS2.0 uses a USB IR tower - which is not natively supported by W95. If you can get USB working, then you might be alright... HTH, James. (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Home-made One-way valve

(...) So you are happy to say that you can increase the amount of vacuum in a sealed tank by placing it at the bottom of a bucket of water?   RIS2 Upgrade on W95 & Pentium(I)

Has anyone succeeded in getting the upgrade to work on less-than-minimum-requirement PCs? In their infinite wisdom, LEGO has "upgraded" the minimum platform for the RIS. I'd like to be able to run it on my existing machine. Moving up to W98 is (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Home-made One-way valve

(...) If you had a 1 atmosphere vacuum in a blue LEGO tank and you took it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench you would have about 13,000 atmospheres of vacuum in it. And if you took it out into space you would have *no* atmospheres in it. All this (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  LNP: host address

Is there a reason to "hardcode" the host address using a define (LNP_HOSTADDR)? Things would be easier for me if I could change the address at run time (when calling lnp_init). Is it safe to replace the defines by a variable? Eric (24 years ago, 21-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Robot Controller 1.3b1

I've posted a new version of Robot Controller ---the ideal companion to NQC for Mac OS X users. This version adds several new features: it can synchronise the RCX watch with your computer's clock, it has a new pane which lets you read and change the (...)   Re: Mario's new book...

I just got my copy of this book from Amazon yesterday. In terms of explaining the elements of mechanical design of Lego robot building (which is what the author intended to focus on), it is an excellent book! I hardly slept last night because I (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Source for a few IS1U60 sensors

I'm looking for two of the IS1U60 sensors for the Handyboard. Anyone know where I can purchase them? The only place I could find that carried them would only sell them in lots of 1000 pieces. If you know where I can get a couple please let me know. (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Proximity

Next question: Does any one have a proximity routne (code) I can review (steal) using LegOS, a light sensor, and the IR port? I've used the NQC stuff, but now I've moved up to LegOS. I haven't been able to find the right commands for the IR port. (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Storing Data

When using LegOS (a most excellent creation, btw) is it possible to store a value and use it in different programs? Actually, I'm sure it is, but how would someone do it? I want to have one program to configure my light sensor, and use those values (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Re: Home-made One-way valve

(...) Argh! <rant> It's been a long time since domestic lightbulbs were even partially evacuated - these days they are filled with some kind of relatively inert gas. Back in the 1940's and 50's they were partially evacuated - and on some old movies (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Home-made One-way valve

(...) I think the reason for that is simply that you can't store very much "vacuum" in a tank. While you can pressurize a tank to several hundred PSI or better, for vacuum you're limited to completely (well, OK, nearly completely) evacuating it--a (...)   Re: Home-made One-way valve

(...) Somehow I'm a bit queasy about this business of "storing vacuum" in a tank. So I checked with the local supplier of industrial gases. If you need a tank of compressed air, that's no problem. But a tankful of vacuum, er that's not listed in the (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic, lugnet.build)

  Re: Contests?

I'm working on a new web site which I hope to launch over the holidays, but I've got a couple of January events listed on the calendar already. It's basically non-functional now, so if you know of an event, drop me an email or post it here and I'll (...) (24 years ago, 19-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics)
