PS: Thumbnails wouldn't make sense for whole catalog pages.

But brief synopses would.  For example, I cruised a site that wanted me
to order from scanned images of a catalog.  Links to each scanned page
were provided.  But no mention of the page contents were provided on the
links page.  So, to find what I wanted, I had to click into a large
number of pages.  Also, each page reference was simply the JPEG image.
So once I was on a page, all I could do was to hit the Back button, and
click another link.  That's not a big deal, but having a set of links to
the other pages would have made browsing much easier.

Was thinking no thumbnails. Synopses definitely. Many a time, too
have I had lost precious time waiting forever for something to
download just enough to see if it was what I wanted, to find
it was not.
The idea of page-a-fying the image, as opposed to showing just
the image is certainly a good one to consider.

Ta!
