Um, what is the problem, exactly, with Yahoo? As I said before in my reply to
your first note, I wanted to be sure that you weren't jettisoning just because
of an irrational fear of Yahoo. I may have missed your answer to that.

Speaking for myself, I find what Yahoo is trying to do a tad offensive.  I
can't quite pin down exactly what it is about Yahoo, but it has something to
do with how much leverage they are getting in the Web publishing market, the
aggressiveness of their ads, and them "getting their fingers into everything".

Let me break these down; perhaps I can better explain my feelings.

a)  Leverage in the Web publishing market:  Yahoo has, upon several occasions,
felt it necessary to exercise editorial control in their chat rooms and other
places.  However, the content they remove tends to do with business rather
than, shall we say, community morals.  While this is fine (it's their
property, after all), it does little to engender warm fuzzy feelings from
myself.  They're getting more power, and (IMO) less ethical in using it.

b)  Aggressive advertising:  It's everywhere.  And I mean EVERYWHERE.  It's
their #1 revenue generator.  I find it mildly offensive, until they see fit to
start serving me banner ads for porn magazines.  My complaints to them on this
issue have gone unheard -- this is why I decided to no longer use the Yahoo
search engine as my starting page, among other forms of protest.

c)  "Getting their fingers into everything":  Kinda an extention of the first
item.  They are out to acquire a leading service in every aspect of the
Internet market, in a divide and conquor strategy.  I smell a Microsoft in
making.

I have a Yahoo id, it's a very handy thing to have, so I don't see the concern
with having one.

Mine got me nothing but porn ads after a while.  I have since deleted the
cookie, and never log in with mine anymore.

Cheers,
- jsproat
