Does anyone know of a Free Image Splicing tool? —Richard Franks
To clarify - I mean a tool that will allow me to select retangular areas, and it will then cut up the image into other rectangular recursive sections, so that it will fit into a HTML table. Typically the selected areas would be used for rollovers - (...) (25 years ago, 21-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

Macromedia Fireworks is the best tool for what you want. It is rather expensive, but as a user of it, I can tell you it's extremely fast and effective, and exports out the html for you. There are no free applications anywhere close to this that I (...) (25 years ago, 21-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Yeah, I imagine that it is quite nice.. but as a student, that isn't really an option.. Besides, even if I could afford it I would still resent buying something for one bit of functionality that I could program in a few hours :) (...) Shucks, (...)      (...) Academic pricing on Macromedia's stuff is usually pretty good. I think Fireworks, like Dreamweaver, is only $99. (25 years ago, 22-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Not bad, but $99 is like, my total budget for getting my LEGO online. For that I can just about get a cheap webcam and the required USB card for my poor old machine. Not to worry though - I finished the code to splice images working fine, only (...) (25 years ago, 22-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Hrmmm - well, you could become famous by releasing this cool util you're writing to everyone else. :) (25 years ago, 22-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Does anyone know of a Free Image Splicing tool? —Richard Franks
(...) That's the intention - the releasing part, not the fame bit :) Actually, there eventually will be a whole suite of tools, scripts, etc for the LEGO site I have in mind, and they'll be free too. Now if only I could release it under a (...) (25 years ago, 22-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Argh! Windows! :) Thanks for the link - that tool is certainly really handy for 90% of people, but unfortunately I need it to do something more complex, eg (URL) (test image curtesy of Scott Arthur (URL)). What's happening there is two (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Does anyone know of a Free Image Splicing tool? —Richard Franks
(...) Sure :) It's in Tcl/Tk which means that you'd have to download a self-extracting windows binary of the language first (available from (URL)). Tcl/Tk comes with most linux distributions, so there shouldn't be a problem for those users! I'll (...) (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)
