I've found that having 2 basic sizes will serve you well - a relatively long range (say about 20 inches or so) per player or (less preferable) pair of players, made of 2x4s, with 4-5 layers of bricks/plates so that it's pretty sturdy. (...) 4 studs = 1-1/4" 1 stud = 5/16" 3 studs = 15/16" If you want to go for a more accurate scale, use 2x3's instead of 2x4's. (...) Everything else in the game is made out of LEGO. It's not really a matter of "appeal". one "inch" is *by definition* 4 studs.
