Well here's a topic after my own heart...
But first (and pardon me for drifting off topic here) offer deep apologies from
my absence from the board over the past... oh... say two months. I've been
insanely busy, and I just managed to sit down and catch up! I'm probably going
to dump a lot of posts in the next hour... *cracks knuckles*...
Anyhow, as to the question of whether size matters...
I'm probably one of the most guilty of building beyond normal playable size, but
I think the reason I've gone that way is a practical one - I'm brutally
understocked in regular ship hulls. With big sloops, cutters and schooners, I
get to take advantage of my larger regular-brick stores.
And I find the playability isn't all that bad -- it's just very, very different.
With big ships with wide beams, I get to put men at the guns and marines on
deck, have officers running about waving swords, and the occasional (VERY
occasional) dramatic dismasting.
I end up satisfying my desire to pit squadrons against each other by playing
"Age of Sail 2"!
So my ultimate goal -- a 32- or 36- gun 1 stud = 1 foot frigate -- would be
built for dramatic photos and plenty of unfortunate boarding actions! And, of
course, to put the fear of Britannia into the French :-)

| this may be an odd question, but it stems from my thoughts on lego ships. so, here we go: there are many sizes of ships that have been built, everything from jolly boats to cutters to sloops to frigates to sail of the line. all have at least a (...) (21 years ago, 18-Jul-03, to lugnet.pirates)
