Problem is there is no possible way to pry those grey bricks out of there, the building is simply built too strong to ever pry it apart. So, I’m going to have to Dremel them out, and replace them with some ‘modified’ bricks.

Any suggestions from people more skilled with the Dremel than I? The walls are mostly 2x4 bricks, the windows are 1x4 and 1x6 bricks set in one stud. Obviously fixing the bottom of the window is easy - just put a grey 1x4 brick in there! The top is the part I’m trying to figure out...

Help?!?

John,

First off, Mark’s idea of tape is a good one. I’ve done alot of plastic model building, most from scratch, and this can save you a bit of grief.

Without a close up image ofthe windoe area, I’m only guessing.

I’d avoid using the Dremel, wrong tool for the job. I could be done, but it’s not the best choice unless you have a very skilled hand. A sharp knife and saw would be better.

I recomend that you purchase a razor saw, X-acto brand is fine, but there are others. ATLAS trains has a nice saw, but the wide spine may be a problem for this task. And a pair of nippy cutters from Radio Shack or sprue cutters from a hobby store. These are small flush side cutters, similar to wire cutters/dikes.

Start by cutting close to to your desired new edge with the saw, the tape will help to mark it. Do this for both sides of the opening. Don’t worry about the inside as much, no one will see it. You may want to stop cutting just before it goes through at the front. I would then use a thin sharp knife (x-acto) to finish the cut, at least on the front. If you were unable/willing to cut all the way through at the back of the brick, use the nippy cutter to remove the center of the brick. Drilling a hole or two first may help. Then chop the back of the brick at the saw cuts. Removeing the center first allows you to flex the part as ou remove it.

I like to make my final “clean” cut with a utility knife. Hope that helps.

Good luck.

Mat

As many people know, the GMLTC is working on our largest project ever - a Lego version of the Plummer Building in Rochester, Minnesota. When we're done it should be about 7 feet tall, and use an estimated 50,000 bricks. Here's where I need some (...) (20 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)
