(...) Actually, it would be easy enough for someone with electronics and microcontroller experience just to build a new receiver. You typically record the IR signals on a PC, figure out how they're coded, then program a microcontroller to decode (...) It's a nice modification, but I can't help thinking it'd be better and cheaper all round to just build an IR receiver circuit for this - there's very little of the original configuration left in your mod. While the idea is great, the implementation left much to be desired. The (...) I have been objective to the standard part colour combinations from TLG for a few years now. This post is not a bashing of new greys or browns. Axles have always been black, so to friction pins. A few part mods for the brave: I decided that buying 32x32 baseplates and cutting them in two was cheaper than buying twice as many 16x32 baseplates. The question is how to make a reliable straight cut. I've used 4x8 plates for rigidity and slider (...) A few keen-eyed Brickshelf followers might have noticed my latest parts mod, cutting up the 1x4 black and yellow striped tiles in order to make the chevron patterns for loco ends.
