LUGOLA Meeting November 3rd, 2001-FOLLOWUP
NOTE: I apologize for this update coming two weeks late, but its tough to
concentrate on typing when you are laid up with every flu strain the teachers in
the household can bring home. Fortunately, Im feeling much better now, and this
is the result.

Well, folks, that was yet another fantastic meeting to put in the books. We
are truly a blessed group to be able to meet as often as we do and to have this
kind of attendence. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a group picture for the
first time ever. DOH! Oh, well...these things happen. First off, thank you,
Bryce and family, for hosting our November event. Words cant express how
thankful we are that youve done this.
We welcomed many new members into our midst who added more depth to the
versatility LUGOLA has already shown over our first year and a half of
existence. This meeting also marked the return of one of our original members:
Mike Rayhawk with a bevy of incredibly cool pictures that we wont be showing
off outside the group. The usual trading, buing and selling went on and was
considered quite successful by the group. There was some showing off of MOCs,
but the bulk of the time was spent either T/B/S or exchanging building ideas.
We have a couple of pictures this time, but due to how tempermental my
camera has become, certain things just didnt photograph.
Knowing that thre would be at least three mecha builders present, we knew that
some of the tablespace would be used up in this way. The following pictures
dont fully convey what was present at this mecha grouping, but it is cool,
nonetheless:

This is a series of mecha by both Bryce McGlone and myself-Cankerworm with Big
BLue in the background, and my own Capricorn, Aries, Pisces, and Dark Onua
huddled around Cankerworms tail.

Sun Yun was kind enough to bring a couple of mecha along for display including
his new Zaku model. Near Suns models was a large red robot on loan to us from
Eric Sophie (really bad pics prevent showing this)

My newest mecha, the HP-01. The first mecha Ive ever built with zero
articulation points. Okay, okay, so its a sculpture of the Harry Potter minifig
inspired by the TRU promo going on right now. It was build in 12 hours over the
course of the two days before the meeting just because I wanted something new to
show off. I was surprised at the numbe of questions I got regarding this model.
I guess Ill have to build another one for BricksWest....Hmmmm...mini-me,
perhaps? Or maybe a mini Captain Awhane? Only time will tell.

Bryce doesnt like to admit that hes talented in many areas of Lego building
but heres the proof of that. The Dalmation and clay pot are just lovely works
to behold. The spider that hangs off the clay pot is quite a cool piece of wark
as well. Just out of view below the Dalmation is Chris Sneads Cepheus mecha.
Moving around the workshop, the next table housed the nine hoverthings created
by Dan Jassim and myself. Too bad the picture didnt come out...Hopefully Dan
will take a pic of his hoverthing and Ill gladly add a pic of my eight
hoverthings and that will make up for it. We both recieved quite a few nice
comments on these models as well as on Dans experimental piece: newborn needs
attention, leave Lego on heater. This is better than the opposite effect: Lego
needs attention... Fortunately, the BST session helped Dan out and helped
replace some of those parts.

Cary Clark brought his airport monorail. It is quite a thing of beauty as you
can plainly see. I hope you got all the drool off the tracks, Cary! ; )
Seriously, Its always a pleasure to see anything made of Lego that moves.
Next in the line of great MOCs is the ______ ________ by the Michon family.
Thomas showed off his preliminary schetches of it , and everyone agreed that it
was quite amazing. I forgot ro ask how many baseplates this item took up, but it
was easily the size of Bryces Cankerworm. I love detailed, large buildings and
wish my talents worked that way, but alas, they dont...for now. Pictures of
this didnt come out and a detailed description will be forthcoming when the
Michonswrite it up.
BricksWest was talked about even without Matthew Gerber present, and plans for
LUGOLAs particpation were starting to gel. Hopefully, all will be set in stone
before January so we can all concentrate on MOC building. :) It appears that we
are foregoing a January meeting in favor of email communication until
Brickswest. It also wasnt decided when our next meeting would be after
Brickswest, but givien our usual timeline, late March to mid-April seems most
logical. I guess well be discussing this via email as well.
As previously stated, we just had a blast trading, buying, and selling...it
seemed that everyone participated in this. I loved the conversations that got
started around a large pile of red Lego. There seemed to be 20 of us there
including some new folks that will hopefully join us in future events.
As evening approached our numbers dwindled until only a few of us remained to
talk mecha and joint systems. New mecha ideas were formed and an idea was put in
motion for BricksWest (more on that at a later date). Finally, Bryce and I
remained to shut things down and get everything put away. And thus ends another
fantastic meeting. Thanks everyone!
