then some.  And we need to consider Alan Demlow's excellent 12 volt trains
unless he wants to convert to 9 volt (providing he or his trains are
available).

Haven't heard from Alan yet but I know we should include some 12v stuff. Only
thing is I can't design his layout that will be up to him since I'm not sure
what he has other then what I saw. which means he can at the very least do a
loop. Since 12v and 9v aren't compatiable its hard to mix the track together.

If we do a show when I'm around and have time, I'd enjoy doing a 12V layout.  I
was thinking of a loop with a couple of turnouts inside with a "stop signal" or
two (if I can get another one) so we could possibly do some remote-controlled
switching.  I even have a 7862 Remote Controlled Decoupler on order (a nice
pickup this week from Franz Koeck) that could be interesting if I can get it to
work properly--which I've heard it doesn't, leading to its early removal from
the 12V line.  Another consideration about my 12V layout is that it's entirely
stock from sets, and I probably won't be doing MOC's any time soon.  But
they're nice sets :-)

I also have a few MOC buildings/structures which I hope to post pictures of
this weekend:  a barn, a church, a house facade, and a train tunnel.  I think
it'd be fun to do a farm scene--anybody figure out how to build a good hay
baler? :-)  I'm not sure how my barn is for scale, but I think it could work.
Of course, farms by definition take up lots of real estate, and I gather from
all the posting that real estate could be in very short supply.  Those darn
developers, ruining all the good rural scenery!  The local farmers may have to
protest--beware Farmer Bob and his pitchfork! ;-)

I perhaps should explain that I'm quite busy right now, so there's no guarantee
I'll be able to do shows with any regularity (but I'd really love to do at
least one).  I'm graduating this spring (Ph.D. in math, for those of you who
don't know what I do), which means I have to complete my thesis and deal with
all of the other issues around that.  Our plans are to be around for the next
year and hopefully leave early in the summer of 2003.  If we'd gotten our group
going a few years ago I would have had more time--I'm kinda bummed that I don't
have time and will be leaving now that we finally have a good group going!

Alan

I think ideal train layouts should utilize tables on four sides. The (...) Four Tables??? geeez we have a town that big? (...) True but it will depend on if we have the room to display that size... and if we have the tables. Just keep that in mind. (...) (23 years ago, 4-Apr-02, to lugnet.org.us.lucny)
