  IndyLUG PC

I was thinking after the meeting last month that it would be handy to have a dedicated IndyLUG PC in the barn, hooked up to the Internet (using Steve's phone line, of course :) ) It would keep us out of Kim's hair, and make it easier to do (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

  Re: IndyLUG PC

(...) Well, Brian got his wish. I now have broadband which we will be able to use to hook up the computer. We'll just need cable to go from the barn to my router. If we can manage to scrape up a license, I'd prefer Windows XP. Steve (21 years ago, 20-Jun-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

  Re: IndyLUG PC

(...) I'd prefer Linux because I already have that license ;-), but I don't really care. (21 years ago, 20-Jun-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

(...) Anyone in the group have a spare XP license? Otherwise, it looks like Linux it is! Steve (21 years ago, 21-Jun-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

(...) Now that I can repost again (don't delete cookies, btw), since when does Linux require a license??? :O -Robert (21 years ago, 26-Jun-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

  Re: IndyLUG PC

(...) I just happened to come across a HP Pavilion 8240 today in the neighbors trash. I remember brian mentioning he needed the case so I grabbed it. The computer is a 233Mhz intel Pentium Processor, 32mb sdram memory (might be missing), 4gb hard (...) (21 years ago, 24-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

(...) Does it smell like diapers, have mice living in it, or anything like that? Maybe your neighbors went Amish, so they had to get rid of it, even though there's nothing wrong with it. (21 years ago, 24-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

  Re: IndyLUG PC

Thanks, Mark! I've found/acquired a few parts recently, too. Let's see what we have now: a fuzzy 14" monitor a CD-ROM drive a floppy drive a keyboard a cheap mouse a socket 7 AMD Athlon CPU and motherboard RAM a computer desk (do we need one, or (...)   Re: IndyLUG PC

Thanks to Mark's excellent dumpster dumping, we've nearly got a complete PC. 500MHz Athlon with 488MB RAM, 32MB AGP Video, and SoundBlaster Live! sound. I put everything I had together tonight. Even added the modem that came with the Pavilion. (...) (21 years ago, 13-Oct-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

(...) How big of a hard drive will the motherboard/BIOS support? I have a brand new 75 Gb drive that I had as a spare for my RAID server, which is going to be upgraded to 250 Gb drives fairly soon. - Eric (21 years ago, 13-Oct-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)

(...) I don't know, but I suspect it will work. If not (or if it's no longer available) I just freed up a 6 GB drive. (21 years ago, 21-Nov-03, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)
