(...) I think you've already guessed, correctly I might add. A shim is just something that slide in between two other things to make it fit, or make a little more snug, or whatever. In our case, boards of varying thicknesses to stick under table (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

(...) Just thought I should clarify, the wood pieces are 1/4" thick. They've been cut into triangles, and each piece covers about the same area as a normal piece of paper. Uh, what are "shims"?? -Bryan (23 years ago, 20-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

(...) I have always considered them plates! But yes, I'm talking about the 1 brick height 12 x 24 plates ... er, bricks :-) The bad news is that I was confusing them with the smaller 10 x 20 ones.
