I think you've already guessed, correctly I might add. A shim is just
something that slide in between two other things to make it fit, or
make a little more snug, or whatever. In our case, boards of varying
thicknesses to stick under table legs, etc. to create a level surface
for the layout. I don't have any wood that is 1/4" thick, so your
pieces would be useful.
When you say "a normal piece of paper", do you mean that each triangle
has about the same surface area as an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of paper?
Can we cut them into smaller pieces?
