When I was younger (I think Grade 3), I built some really dumb projects.
One of them, was a fish feeder.  I had surmised that fish would follow
something that dispensed food so I built a small 4x4 box out of 4x1 • Technic
beams and hung it from a string.  It actually worked:  When you lowered it
into the fish tank and dragged it around the tank, it would dispense food • by
rushing out the flakes through the holes of the beams and the fish would
follow the feeder.  Why did I do this?  I can't honestly figure out, but I
did it anyways.  (Something that lead to a career of project management
later)

Feeders were fun.  I went so far as to build a control-centre controlled
cat-food dispenser - it had a belt I made out of paper under a hopper that
at timed intervals owuld fire out some IAMS into Marmalade's bowl.  But then
when she'd smell the cat food in the hopper she'd tip the whole thing over.

I also built an automatic orange-juice stirrer for my mom.  Because our
orange juice was concentrate (fun to eat raw for giddy time) and it would
settle sometimes.

Fun.  I just dropped off two girls who I spent the evening with building the
fiddling about with LEGO trains. (and wearing wigs and masks, and going
skating downtown in front of city hall doing representative dance to
acapella Bjork - All Neon Like.)
